Chocolate Box Gift Exchange

Happy new year, dear Chocolatiers! Welcome to signups!

You can find the signup form here. You need a minimum of 3 fandoms to request and 4 to offer, at least one relationship for each fandom to request and two to offer, and up to twenty for requests and offers. You also need to choose whether you want fanfic, fanart, or you would like either of them. Here is the tagset. If you cannot find your fandom, please look in "Uncategorized Fandoms". If you are offering a fandom with only one ship nominated, you need to tick the "Any" checkbox for that fandom.

If we had to default you at deadline you are required to complete your assignment before you can sign up again. When you do this, please email us so that we can tick you off. If you sign up while you are still banned, we will delete your signup at the end of signups. Please feel free to contact us if you want to confirm whether you are banned or not.

A reminder also that you are only allowed to sign up with one account.

Requests are currently visible but you are free to edit your signup until 11:59pm EST on 7 January 2021.

Character A/Character B = shipfic.

EDIT: It's come to our attention that due to a mistake on our part, you can request and offer fandoms more than once. That is, you can request Fandom A two or more times, or you can offer Fandom A two or more times. Please check your assignments and ensure that every fandom in your requests, and every fandom in your offers, is unique. We will be checking all requests and offers once signups are finalised and the more work we have to do to ensure that all signups comply with this requirement, the longer it will take for you to get your assignment.

 A reminder that signups close at 11:59pm EST today!

Once signups close we will be reviewing the signups to ensure that there are no duplicate fandoms in signups, and that all tags used are those that are associated with the fandom requested/offered. We have contacted those who were affected by the bug that allowed people to select any tag in the tagset and asked them to amend. If, at the time signups close there are signups with duplicate fandoms or signups where tags weren't amended, we will be amending the signups to make them compliant with the rules. This mostly will mean merging fandoms and amending/deleting tags improperly used, but if your signup does not have enough unique fandoms and offers to qualify, we will have to delete it so that matching can take place. Please check your signup and amend if your signup has duplicate fandoms and/or you have been contacted by us about issues by the time signups close!

Finally, we have been receiving a number of comments expressing concerns about the eligibility of various tags in the tagset. We're afraid that we cannot touch the tagset at this stage. If you think a person, character, or prompt should not be allowed in Chocolatebox, please let us know at the end of this round, so we can open it up for discussion.

Also, as a reminder, please be careful about which tag you use, especially when there are characters with very similar names!

 Coming in at 408 signups across many, many fandoms! This is significantly more than last year so congratulations all!

What happens next:

• I will go through signups and identify anyone who did not ensure that all requested fandoms were unique, and all offered fandoms were unique and ask them to make changes to their signups within 12 hours.
• After that twelve hours expires or all people I contacted have responded (whichever comes first), I will do matching! 
• Once matching is done, I will contact anyone who does not have a person they can create a gift for and ask them to amend their offers. They will have 24 hours to respond.
• Once everyone who does not have a recipient has responded or the 24 hours has elapsed (whichever comes first), assignments will go out!

In the meantime, browse through the requests! Now that signups are locked in (mostly) maybe there's some prompts that have caught your creative eye. And have fun! 

It's been brought to my attention that the form allows you to request multiples of a fandom. Please do not do this, as matching will be difficult in this exchange as it is given the number of variables involved and it is against the rules of the exchange.

If you have duplicated or triplicated a fandom in your signup, please ensure that all fandoms are unique for your requests, and all fandoms are unique for your offers. If you have not done this by the time signups close, you will be contacted and given 12 hours to make the necessary changes. If you fail to do so in that time, your signup will be deleted.

I apologize for the inconvenience!

Signups are now closed, at 294 participants! So close to 300! Maybe next year we can beat 300.

Matching

Matching has already begun and hopefully assignments will go out soon. If you are contacted by me, it means that you are not able to write for anyone, and you will be asked to adjust your signup so that you can be matched to someone. The quicker you can get back to me, the quicker assignments can go out, so please ensure that the email address you have with AO3 is one that you check.

Pinch hits

Pinch hits will be posted to the community with comments screened so that only I can see them. To pick up a pinch hit you leave a comment with your AO3 name and which pinch hit you would like to pick up.

I am assuming that there will be some initial pinch hits after the matching algorithm ends, so please keep an eye out for those!

Treats

Treats go into the main collection! They will not be your recipient's ultimate gift but are instead an additional story. Please feel free to write treats!

List of all prompts

A text searchable document of all prompts will be done while matching is ongoing. I'll let you all know when it's complete!

Please contact me at chocolateboxmod[at]gmail if there are any problems with your assignment! I know that people are contacting me with DW messages, but it has been very difficult to reply to a number of you because your security settings mean that you can send messages but not receive them.

 Just a reminder to everyone that you will be matching on relationship tags, and relationship tags are what your author is required to write. Prompts are optional details which can be ignored and in the case where the optional details contradict the relationship tag, authors are encouraged to ignore the optional details and write the relationship in the tag instead.

Please keep this in mind when you write your prompts!
