 It's a bit early, but I figured "why not?"

You can find the tag set here! Nominations close at 11:59pm EST on December 29.

In terms of nominations:
  • just about any fandom is eligible;
  • Please remember that "Character A/Character B" is shipfic while "Character A & Character B" is genfic
  • There is no limit on the number of characters that can be in a combination other than the AO3 character limit;
  • Crossovers must be nominated in "Crossover Fandom", which is already nominated. Crossovers that are not nominated in this fandom will be deleted.
  • Original Works are okay and I have nominated that fandom for you already;
  • You will be required to offer two tags per fandom on signups (unless only one relationship tag is nominated), so please keep that in mind when nominating.
Please watch this comm for updates about clarifications, merging of fandoms, and my getting increasingly drunk as we head towards Christmas! DRUNK MOD BEST MOD.

You say this "Crossovers must be nominated in "Crossover Fandom"" here, but on the tagset there're these instructions instead: "If crossover relationships are allowed, you can enter them under either fandom."

Which one is correct?

:D! I'm so glad you're running this again!

I have kind of a weird question. Do all of the characters have to be sentient? Are non-sentient "characters" fine as long as they're nominated with the understanding that the pairing tag implies that the more typical character is literally romantically or sexually involved with the non-sentient "character"?

For example, something like Dean Winchester/The Impala (his car) from Supernatural.

Looks like one of my nominations accidentally duplicated itself. Under "幻影ヲ駆ケル太陽 il sole penetra le illusioni | Day Break Illusion" there are both Shirokane Ginka/Taiyou Akari and Taiyou Akari/Shirokane Ginka. The second can probably be deleted.

Is there a shorter way to nominate a whole group of characters and their relationship? For instance, if I wanted to write/request the whole Leverage team, is there a way to do it other than "Sophie Devaroux&Nathan Ford&Alec Hardinson&Eliot Spencer&Parker"?

(That's just an example from a not so obscure canon. I want to nominate the Gentlemen Bastards from Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastard Sequence.)

The idea I had, was if the group has a canonical name, to use that plus "relationship", if Ao3 would support that. So, "Leverage Team- Relationship" or "Gentlemen Bastards Gang- Relationship," or "Crystal Gems- Relationship."

There are existing group tags in a couple of fandoms I know of; I actually used them in my nominations. "Blood Blockade Battlefront" has "Libra and Leonardo Watch" (Libra being the organization the protagonists work for in canon), and "Fullmetal Alchemist" has "Roy Mustang and Team Mustang" (even though Mustang's subordinate officers are absolutely never referred to as anything like that in canon). Since these are just outgrowths of usage within the fandoms, though, I suppose they wouldn't really apply to anything worked out specifically for this exchange.

Hi there mod!

Thank you for doing this again <3

I have a question. What if I want world-building fic set in a special location (like, a mall or a library) and the people working/visiting there? What do I put in the tags?

Or is this like "original work" and put these places as characters?

Thank you!

You will be required to offer two tags per fandom on signups (unless only one relationship tag is nominated)

Is this really necessary? I believe someone already asked this question last time, but that was after signups had already opened, so I hope this is bringing up the issue in time. Is it supposed to help with matchability? Because for me this would just mean that I could offer fewer fandoms than I otherwise would because I can only write one ship in them and it's not like I can stop other people from requesting other ships in these fandoms.

And the main appeal of this exchange for me is the possibility to be guaranteed shipfic, so offering the gen version of my ships isn't really interesting to me.

Non mod, but this is what I read mod saying between the lines: nominate your minimum two offers, and if you're willing to write one only ship or dynamic, you could nominate / and & versions of it in order to be able to offer just one couple of characters. It's not ideal, but it's better than having to choose to offer a couple I don't want to do fanwork for.

No worries, the holidays are busy. :)

I have to admit that I don't really understand this logic. I'm in enough fandoms that I won't have trouble hitting the minimum number of fandoms. Forcing me to offer two pairings per fandom won't make me offer additional things I'm not really all that excited about. It will make me unoffer a large number of pairings I would love to write because I'm not going to risk being matched on a pairing I don't like and which I was forced to add. So this rule makes matching harder, because quite a few people who might have someone who can write for them will end up with no writer because the people who could write for the pairing they requested would have had to offer a different pairing someone else requested, too. And sure, the word count is low, but I'm not going to sign up for an exchange to write something I hate. Nor is it in the interest of any participant if a bunch of people end up writing 300 half-assed words for a pairing they didn't want to offer in the first place.

It just puts non-multishippers in a ridiculous position where they can't offer half their pairings unless only one pairing is nominated for that fandom. Or you have to offer the gen version instead - but if I have no guarantee to get matched on Bob/John rather than Bob & John, what's the point of doing an exchange that matches on ships as opposed to an exchange that matches me on the characters Bob and John?

Wouldn't it be easier and also more efficient to up the minimum number of fandoms people have ot offer? Rather than the number of tags per fandom?

I agree. I didn't notice that rule but it makes me hesitant to sign up. If I do, I'll just offer my OTP and an & ship that's in the tagset that doesn't turn me off as a writer (or just the & version of my OTP). But the recip doesn't deserve receiving 300 halfhearted words of the & ship because I lucked out of writing what I was really into writing. The exchange interested me because (at least it seemed to me) it'd be an exchange where people were matched on what they really wanted, genfic or shipfic. But apparently the exchange doesn't have that quality and so I'm hesitant to sign up.

participants could choose to nominate accordingly

That doesn't really work, though. If my fandom right now only has A/B nominated, my ship, that's great for me and there's no reason for me to nominate a second ship like A&B. However, I have no way of knowing what other people may still nominate. Someone might well nominate my NOTP B/C an hour before nominations close and I wouldn't know. Then the two nominated ships for that fandom would be A/B and B/C and I couldn't offer the fandom anymore. Someone whose only match might have been me writing A/B for them would not have a possible writer anymore, because I couldn't offer A/B without also having to offer B/C.

TLDR: Making it harder for people to offer the pairings they want to write makes matching harder, not easier.

Can we nominate things like "Alice/Bob & Charlie", i.e three (or more) characters interacting where only two are a romantic pairing?

Since I posted that comment all of them have been reviwed and accepted as before only a few had been.

I tried to add a few more pairings to the existing fandoms or to add another new fandom, but neither has worked.

The latter. It lets me get to the edit screen, and I can enter information, but it refuses to save anything.

Everything I entered was done in one session, and I clicked back to edit straight away (I needed to check a name), but it didn't let me make any changes afterwards.

Is there a glitch, or am I just mdoing something wrong? *flails arms*

Sounds like that's the only option.

I want to add:

The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman
Nobody "Bod" Owens & Silas
Nobody "Bod" Owens/Silas

Hockey RPF
Brandon Bollig/Andrew Shaw
Mitch Marner/Auston Matthews

Price and Prejudice - Jane Austen
Jane Bennet/Caroline Bingley

Thanks. Sorry for the bother.

Hi there,

When I look at my nominations page, I see some that have been approved, but they're not showing up in the tag set, including in "Unassociated Characters & Relationships" (presumably the unwrangled-tag holding bin). Also, one canon that was in the tag set last night is now gone (Doctrine of Labyrinths). Is this just AO3 being glitchy? Thanks in advance.
