Not nominator, but no, Venom (2018) is part of the Sony Spiderman movie 'verse, which is an entirely separate thing from the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Currently. Future negotiations between Sony and Disney may change this.) That said, and this link has spoilers for Spiderman: No Way Home (which is definitely MCU), canonical crossover is canonical.

Venom & FFVII

I was a nominator for Final Fantasy VII Remake. As long as my nomination remains clear that I want the Remake I am fine with them being merged. If it would lose that clarification then I don't want them merged. An argument can be made that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a sequel via some form of time travel but there are already differences regarding events and characterization for some characters.

I am not a nominator for MCU. Venom and Eddie Brock are in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Not the nominator, but I'd interpret "Canon EU" as referring to the new Expanded Universe under Disney, as opposed to the old Expanded Universe (now the "Legends EU").

Yes, this is what it generally means -- the novels (and possibly comics?) that have come out since the change of ownership to Disney and are meant to be considered canon, to distinguish them from the novels of the '90s-'00s that we used to call the EU.

I am the nominator for Venom, and I had exactly the same problem! The fandom has been separate up until now, as it's a Sony franchise, rather than MCU proper. However, as of Spiderman No Way Home, they are canonically crossed over, and, of course, Venom has always been part of the Marvel Comics universe. *throws up hands* Both, both is the answer. Sorry I can't make it any easier for you. If I get to pick, I'd say keep it separate, as up until now the stories and characters in Venom movie-verse have had no real storylines in common with the larger MCU. That may change in future movies, but for now, that's the case.

I'm in favor of merging Compilation & FF7R, as FF7R contains references to all of the compilation and there is no good way to detangle canon-- Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, some of the novels, and even Advent Children have been incorporated with characters from those games appearing in the remake, along with references to events from those games being clearly established as canonical in ff7r.

I only nominated under FF7R but I don't care wether somebody pulls from new or old canon, so for my purposes, if its merged, I don't want the characters split between remake/not remake.

I would also vote to keep the Venom movies separate from the MCU, as the characters in those movies exist in a separate universe from the rest of the MCU characters (and the crossover period where Eddie and Venom are in the MCU universe is very brief). Also, this is just a personal thing, but I'm more likely to completely miss seeing characters/pairings in the tagset when they're in the 160+ items long list under the MCU.

The Eternals (Movie 2021) has been nominated under its own separate title - it's part of the MCU and the nominations should probably be merged!

I've nominated for Compilation of FFVII purely because one of the ships I nommed (Cid/Vincent), neither character has turned up in remake yet. I did admittedly add Rufus/Cloud as well with the intent of saving fandom slots, but that was how I personally made the distinction.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake has its own timeline and characterizations separate from the Compilation, so while I'm not the nominator, I'd say they should remain separate and let folks list in their letters if they have no preference.

(spoilers for the new Spider-Man movie)

I nominated Peter Parker/Venom Symbiote and Peter Parker & Venom Symbiote under MCU because Venom and Eddie are in the mid-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home - a brief crossover event, as other commenters have mentioned. We get a very brief glimpse of them before Venom and Eddie are sent back to their home universe, where the Venom movies took place. However, we see at the end of the scene that Venom left a part of itself in the MCU before departing - like, a little black glob literally hanging out on the counter (which is pretty clearly an indication that the next Spider-Man is going to be a Venom movie, imo). Therefore, my thought process was that the Venom Symbiote is now canonically part of the MCU, even if the Venom movies themselves are not (and I would strongly agree that they really are not). That said, my nominations could easily be moved over to Crossover Fandom if you think that makes more sense!

hi sorry! i’m the one of the ones who did the ff7 compilation tag because i didn’t know if i should have put my ships into the remake one since one ship’s characters were only in crisis core and it obviously wasn’t enough to nominate the canon separately. i changed my nomination to fall under the remake umbrella instead before seeing this post, so i’m not sure which way y’all would prefer to proceed…i had just figured the compilation tag would be a better catch all at the original time of nomination. :”)

i’m fine for it to go either way, i just wanted to be able to get all of my ships in somehow or another haha

Just wondering whether the 18th Century relationships (involving Keats, Shelley and Byron) shouldn't maybe be under 19th Century? They were all born at the very end of the 18th, but they were children at the turn of the century and most of their lives happened in the 19th.
