Chocolate Box lives and is now accepting nominations! You are able to nominate up to seven fandoms and seven relationships in those fandoms.

You can find the tag set here!

In terms of nominations generally:

• just about any fandom is eligible;
• Please remember that "Character A/Character B" is shipfic, "Character A & Character B" is genfic, and "Character A/Character B & Character C" is shipfic that also has a gen component;
• Please put the fandom name in brackets at the end of the tag - this saves us having to do it 10,000+ times and if a tag wanders we can find where it should go very quickly.
• There is no limit on the number of characters that can be in a combination other than the AO3 character limit;
• Objects can be nominated in tags;
• Crossovers must be nominated in "Crossover Fandom", which is already nominated. Crossovers that are not nominated in this fandom will be deleted.
• Original Works are okay and we have nominated that fandom for you already;

You will be required to offer two tags per fandom on signups (unless only one relationship tag is nominated), so please keep that in mind when nominating.

For specific fandoms:

• Dragon Age - please nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)"
• Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom.
• Marvel Netflix series - these should all be nominated under one name based on your feedback from last year. What name's been used in other exchanges?  We've been told "Defenders (TV)" works well.
• Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
• Arrowverse - please nominate into "DC's Arrowverse" and not individual titles.
• Angel and Buffyverse - is there a fandom tag you would like used? We're not sure whether they should be merged together or kept apart.
• Stargate - please nominate as "Stargate - All Media Types"
• Marvel and DC Comics - We'd like a consistent approach, so please in this post let us know whether you want them by individual titles or "Marvel (Comics)" and "DC Comics"

For Star Wars, what if you want to nominate a pairing that doesn't appear together in a movie/trilogy. Like Padmé/Kylo or Obi-Wan/Finn for example. Would something like that go into crossovers?

I’d prefer something a little more specific, since there’s the movie and now the reboot comics, as well as the old official continuation comics. People usually request and write for the show, but there’s the odd exception.

Nominating the shows separately works, and I’ve also seen them combined as Buffyverse (TV) a few times.

Arrowverse
Arrowverse got a lot more complicated since last year. It now includes the traditional Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman, but in the past few weeks they've also added the 60s Batman show, Birds of Prey Show, Smallville, Lucifer, Burton/Schumacher Batman movies, the Superman movie series, 90s Flash show, Titans, and Black Lightning. By extension the Green Hornet show is now Arrowverse as well since it's on the same Earth as the 60s Batman show.

As long as I can disambiguate by universe of origin I'm fine with merged.

DCU (Comics
As long as I can specify in my nominations I'm fine with merged. Just to give an example there are three completely different Kara Zor-Els just on the main Earth due to continuity shenanigans.

I would say that Arrowverse should only include the "traditional" shows-- Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. The other shows should continue to be their own thing as they have very little interaction with the core Arrowverse shows.

Hi! I just wanted to give a heads up re: two issues.

1. Greedfall fandom -- AO3 has synned male/female versions of the main character (de Sardet) to each other. These are NOT the same though, for obvious reasons. I just wanted you to be aware that AO3 might attempt to merge them.

2. MoDao ZuShi -- AO3 has decided to include all the pinyin diacriticals in the ship names, and to pipe every single character name. This is nearly unreadable in most cases. I've nominated my ships in the uncanonical form (and some others have decided to do the same) in order to make it more readable in the exchange interface. Otherwise it'll be a huge mess of long, piped tags that nobody can even type into the drop-down when sign-ups roll around.

Yes, please. A pairing that autocompletes may be associated with multiple fandoms including some where the characters may not have appeared.

Can you confirm that the nominations for ITV's Endeavour, Inspector Morse, and (Inspector) Lewis should be consolidated under "Inspector Morse & Related Fandoms" even though each fandom has its own entry in the AO3 tagset? It's how I made my nominations.

It looks like it's been nominated in multiple ways. It's not a fandom I'm familiar with and there are anonymous comments that the shows are set in different time periods. May I ask you why you think they should be combined?

Marvel Comics - I'd really prefer doing it by individual titles, i.e. "X-Men (Comics)." The tag set gets really giant and hard to read otherwise.

Nominating as Defenders (TV) works great for me! That's how I've seen it done in the past couple of exchanges that had it grouped under an umbrella fandom (e.g. Trick or Treat) and it seemed to work well.

I would prefer separate titles for the comics because characterization and relationships can be so different between different titles.

How are you handling Star Trek? I want to nominate some original characters from the original series books and also some canon TV characters, also original series.

I've seen those put together as Star Trek - Classic Timeline - All Series but I want to wait till we have a ruling on this before I nominate.

DC Comics also just came out with a new label called: DC Black Label for their more mature section and it's replaced Vertigo. DC Label currently has been merged with the recent Sandman Universe and that includes a NEW "John Constantine: Hellblazer" series that just recently came out. If anyone wants a pairing from from these comics it should be labeled "DC Black Label Comics" and not "DC Comics". It's like Marvel's MAX comics for maturity. Batman: White Knight and Curse of the White Knight, and Batman: Damned are also under DC Black Label.

My other question is how to handle "The Witcher (TV)" and "Watchmen (TV)"? Watchmen TV series is over, but A03 has yet to make an official category for it. The Witcher on Netflix just came out today.

This page says to add the fandom in brackets at the end of the pairing, but all the stuff that's been approved seems to have the fandom in parentheses? Did you mean parentheses? Is this just a semantic thing? (To me "brackets" means "square brackets" specifically but maybe I'm the weird one here.)

It doesn't matter whether square brackets or parantheses are used. We're more interested in the fandom appearing so that if a tag needs to be manually associated to a fandom we can see just by looking at the tag where it needs to go.

Agreeing what another participant said above, I ask you to please please keep the (noncanonical) tag versions that are unpiped and without diacritic marks when there are two options -- the unpiped ship tags are much easier to read, and the non-diacritic versions are much easier to make show up in autocomplete when signing up.

This may seem petty, but I was looking at what has already been nominated for MCU and noticed that there is Bucky Barnes/Okoye (MCU), Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson (MCU), and Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson & Steve Rogers (MCU), whilst there are five other pairings with Bucky's name written as 'James "Bucky" Barnes', which is how it is written in the usual AO3 tags.

Personally, I think that a) it would better if they all matched, and b) that the usual AO3 tag way would be the preferred way to write Bucky's name, but maybe that's just me. All I know is that when I was checking, I nearly missed some of the noms by looking under one version of the name and not the other *shrugs* Just a thought :)
