Nominations 2019!

Chocolate Box lives and is now accepting nominations! This year you can nominate up to seven fandoms and seven relationships.

You can find the tag set here!

In terms of nominations generally:

• just about any fandom is eligible;
• Please remember that "Character A/Character B" is shipfic, "Character A & Character B" is genfic, and "Character A/Character B & Character C" is shipfic that also has a gen component;
• If you are nominating a character that has multiple versions across canons, please specify which one;
• There is no limit on the number of characters that can be in a combination other than the AO3 character limit;
• Objects can be nominated in tags;
• Crossovers must be nominated in "Crossover Fandom", which is already nominated. Crossovers that are not nominated in this fandom will be deleted.
• Original Works are okay and I have nominated that fandom for you already;
• You will be required to offer two tags per fandom on signups (unless only one relationship tag is nominated), so please keep that in mind when nominating.

I'm seeing a lot of "crossover" ship nominations that are actually just Star Wars ships from different installments of the franchise, which seems like a bizarre use of "crossover" to me when "Star Wars - All Media Types" is right there. So just checking, but are we not supposed to nominate "Star Wars - All Media Types" or "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and the like, or something?

The AO3 FAQ says "We will be posting to the comm with how larger continuities have been nominated so that participants can decide how they should be grouped." but I don't see anything yet.

Star Wars was decided in previous years to split it up into the individual series, as while a person may be familiar with the Prequel movies, they may not be familiar with the Clone Wars material, or the books. We're open for discussion on that point, however, and it may be that the groupings no longer work for people.

In terms of the MCU, the movies should be nominated as the MCU, and we are open to suggestions in relation to the television shows.

I've run across a bizarre issue and I don't know how it's showing on the back end.

I nominated the fandom The Arcana, and associated ships. In that same batch, I also nominated Original Works and one ship. AO3 was giving me trouble with the drop down menus so I hit submit... and suddenly "The Arcana" was listed as "Original Works." I tried to fix it somehow, but was unable to because Original Works was already approved, and now AO3 keeps giving me the error of "you seem to be trying to submit Original Works twice."

I canceled out of editing the submissions but both slots still show as Original Works for me, with The Arcana ships listed under original works. :/ Ships involving Julian Devorak, Lucio, Asra, and Male Apprentice all belong under The Arcana, if for some reason you're seeing it under Original Works.

If it's under the correct fandom on your end, I'll just figure out a workaround for my nominations.

Ah, thanks! This is my first year checking out Chocolate Box, so I did not know that.

I don't think I really have any suggestions or discussion points, I was just surprised because my assumption would be that when an exchange matches on relationships, it would be pretty easy to avoid getting matched on characters from parts of a franchise you're not familiar with! Though I see that at least one of the people who've nominated Star Wars under Crossovers has specified which trilogy they want Luke to hail from, so idk, idk.

The TV shows would all be covered under 'Defenders' technically speaking, if you wanted to offer all the shows. Otherwise I would think the individual shows would work!

Hey mods! Would it be possible to change Street Fighter II movie (anime & manga) to Street Fighter the movie (movies)? I meant the latter when I nominated it, and imo the canons are different enough to warrant the distinction.

Only the Netflix ones. Other than all falling under the MCU umbrella, Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, Inhumans, Runaways, and Cloak & Dagger have nothing to do with the Defenders cluster of shows.

Yeah, as someone who's in MCU, my personal preference would be to use MCU for the movies, Defenders for that show cluster, and have the other shows individually (Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, Runaways, etc), because there really is little to no character crossover between the shows outside the Defenders group (which I completely agree works best as a group).

The other shows are a thing I forget exist and I made the comment with a 102 degree fever, so that explains that -- I would certainly agree there too, especially as someone who would consider offering Defenders.

Don't feel bad, I had forgotten that the ones besides Defenders, Agent Carter and Agents of Shield exist and was about to make a comment basically just listing those ones 'til I got down to this part of the comment thread. XD And I don't have the excuse of a fever! There are just a lot of them now.

For whatever it's worth, this would also be my personal preference, as someone in MCU. It's the option that most tracks how I actually think of the canons and how they relate to each other.

Hey all, took the liberty to create a nominations coordination spreadsheet, not going to lie, it was self serving because I have too many ships in one fandom (where are my The 100 people?) and one too many fandoms overall.

Just confirming - last year, it was decided to merge Homestuck and Hiveswap. I'd like to nom some Hiveswap Friendsim relationships; should I do that under Homestuck, based on last year's precedent? Thanks!

Animorphs is a canonical book tag under the author name of "Katherine A Applegate," this year its been nominated under "Ka applegate" and is uncategorized. Would it be possible to change that so its easier to find?

No idea. My other noms for The Arcana were accepted just fine... so no clue.

Outside of this instance, I haven't seen any issues between the site and this lovely game.

I want to echo the suggestion that The Defenders include all the MCU Netflix shows: Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher. Either that or we call it MCU Netflix.

Then the other MCU shows be listed individually.

So, it looks like the tag The Arcana is synned to Original Work. If I had to make a guess I'd say someone probably named their original fic by that title way back before the visual novel came out, and when people put their origfic's title in the fandom tags (which they shouldn't be doing), Ao3 syns that tag to Original Work.

You might want to get in touch with Ao3 support and ask them to re-syn the tag to The Arcana (Visual Novel). (For the record, "The Arcana (Visual Novel)" is the canonical tag for the video game, so it's probably what will wind up in the Chocobox tagset.)
