Welcome everyone to Chocolate Box 2019!

Nominations will open 18 December 2018, so now is a timely opportunity to let you all know about the changes that will occur this round.

First up, fewer nominations. For those who don't remember, last year our tagset was so large that I couldn't load the admin console. Chocolate Box's tagset has always been large enough that it is difficult to approve, but last year's experiences mean that this year we have to try something different. This year, nominations have been reduced to seven fandoms, and seven relationships for each. We'll assess the number of nominations for next year depending on how this goes, and hopefully we will be able to inch the numbers for nominations back up in future years, or reassess the configuration of the nominations (such as fewer fandoms and more ships, or vice versa).

Secondly, automatic screening of anonymous comments without AO3 names. We will be reading them, but an anonymous comment that does not contain the commenter's AO3 name will remain screened.

Finally, you may have noticed the use of "we" in this post. That's because Chocolate Box has grown too large for me to run on my own, so I have appointed a comod. Say hello to [personal profile] thecatmod, my new partner in crime!

See you all on the 18th for tagset nomination!

Thank you! Arrowverse and MCU will work, be a lot easier, and will cut down on some fandoms so the tagset hopefully won't be as strained as it was last year.

Last year I think the TV shows were separate from the main MCU. As someone who is more a fan of the TV universe I tend to prefer that because it helps keep the MCU section from being unmanageably huge for tag selection purposes when signing up, and because it allows me to choose separate, non-overlapping shows as separate fandoms (e.g. Agent Carter and Defenders) so I don't have to choose just my top favorite pairing or two from each show if I'm having to nominate and request several different shows as a single fandom. Basically, having them separate works a lot better for me as a fan.

However, I have to admit that combining them does cut down on the confusing-ness of some tags ending up in multiple categories (e.g. Peggy is both in the movies and the TV show) and is probably easier on an administrative level when you're not having to make judgment calls about where to include, say, a pairing like Frank/Karen that's in multiple shows. I would personally prefer having them separate but I'm open to whatever works better for the mods.

I want Arrowverse grouped together. However, I think the 90s Flash show and Smallville should be kept separate except for the characters from their shows that appeared in the Elseworlds Crossover (the 90s Flash TV show Barry Allen and the Smallville Green Arrow). Because yes, Arrowverse is trying to make itself even more complicated.

I don't have as strong feelings on the MCU, but I like grouping the parts that crossover, so movies as one fandom, Netflix as a second, etc, or having the whole thing under MCU.
