Tom Thorne series of books by U.K. author Mark Billingham
Cry Baby is his latest book which I loved. So I’ve gushed about it a bit below, but you don’t need to base your fic on this book in particular. Anything from my likes list will be just as well received.
This book is the latest in the Tom Thorne UK detective series and is a little different in that’s it’s a prequel. What do I like about this book series, which I’ve read all 17 novels, the characters. I’m a huge fan of character interaction and this is a wonderful series, so was very excited when I heard this was to be a prequel. It’s set in 1996, so was fun to read about clunky mobile phones and the general differences in policing back 25 years ago.
But I’m all about the characters, as I’ve said, so there were a some first meetings to explore during the story. Tom meeting medical examiner Phil Hendricks, who Tom becomes great friends with. Also Russell Brigstock, later to become Tom’s boss. If you are looking for a new author to explore I highly recommend this Tom Thorne series and what better place to start than this prequel story.
Tom Thorne is a flawed but very likeable character and the mix of humour and police procedural makes for a heady and perfect combination. Well I think so! Although for me the case is less important than character interaction. I love dialogue too.
Some prompts if you need them.
There is one fabulous (well it warmed my heart ) interaction during the investigation when Tom goes for a meal with his parents. This is my favourite scene/ interlude in the whole story and it was so nice to meet Tom’s mother Maureen, (in the later books she has already passed.) nothing monumental happens it’s just a sweet moment during the investigation. So I’d love any further interaction between Tom and his family, a holiday event of some kind perhaps. Anything at all featuring Tom and his parents would make me very happy indeed.
Phil and Tom don’t immediately hit it off in this first meeting, but will become very good friends and drinking buddies. So any male bonding would be fun, a football match, going out for a curry to their favourite restaurant. Or maybe Phil joins Tom for a holiday meal with his parents, that would be cool.
Or any case fic interaction between the guys.
Tom being supportive when one of Phil’s relationships breaks up.
I’d love it if you wanted to explore what Tom’s career was like before he was promoted to detective.

This show is a British cop show that premiered in 2001. It revolved around cases and personal lives of undercover detectives Liam Ketman (Nick Berry) and Garth O’Hanlon (Steven Tompkinson) The show ran for 3 seasons and had some great storylines. Liam is married with a wife and family and the show covered the effects working undercover had on their relationships. While Garth was single and the more fun loving of the two detectives.
What I love about the show is the relationship between Liam and Garth, two very different characters, the banter and the action. For me the show did concentrate too much on Liam and his family, while I found Garth the more interesting characters. Garth is my favourite, so I am biased in that opinion lol
Prompts wise, nothing in particular but anything from my likes list would be well received. I do have some favourite Garth episodes but not including specific prompts cause I’m not really expecting anyone to remember the show lol

This is probably one of my most watched shows and it only lasted one season(we were robbed!) The premise was pollution had cause our Earth to be abandoned, forcing humans to live on space stations. Scientist Devon Adair and crew journey to a new planet to colonise but end up crash landing on the planet. They journey on searching for New Pacifica which was their original destination on planet.
What I liked about the show, well besides the fact I’m a long time science fiction fan
There is a great bunch of diverse characters, my favourite are Alonzo, Morgan Martin, Bess Martin, True Danziger and Gaal (the fabulous Tim Curry) the planet and it’s indigenous creatures...Grendlers! So much fun. It has so much potential...
I’d love a fic featuring any of my favourite characters but feel free to include others too.

Pilot Alonzo Solace was a lot older than he looked, due to all the cold sleep journeys he’d made as a pilot. He’d never intended to set a foot off the ship, so I’d love if you’d like to explore Alonzo coping with his unexpected circumstances.

John & Morgan are complete opposites, could they ever find some common ground?
I really grew to love Morgan the best out of all the characters. I do seem to levitate towards this type of character and would love it if Morgan were able to become a more valuable member of the group. Even if in some small way.

Any missing scene or just go with something from my likes list. My favourite thing about the show is the relationship between Malcolm and Gil. I also enjoy the interaction between Malcolm and JT. Or more Nurse Ilsa from Internal Affairs, which happens to be my favourite episode.
Younger Malcolm and his relationship with Gil/Jackie canon divergence might work well here too

Aww and in the season finale there were several cute moments in between the serious stuff, Mom telling Malcolm he was grounded, telling Gil that Malcolm was in his room sulking and when Malcolm and Ainsley were sitting on the couch together feigning innocence. Anything sparked by these little scenes would be so so welcome.

What I love about the show is the relationship between Liam and Garth, two very different characters, the banter and the action. For me the show did concentrate too much on Liam and his family, while I found Garth the more interesting characters. Garth is my favourite, so I am biased in that opinion lol

Prodigal Son is my favourite show at the moment and I’ve also been having a mammoth re-watch of Criminal Minds. I’d be very happy for a fic based on any of my likes. My favourite characters are Malcolm Bright and Spencer Reid. But I like the rest of both casts too. I also have really enjoyed Mindhunter a whole lot (I’ve rewatched it a lot lol) and liked the idea of some kind of interaction between Holden and Malcolm.

This is probably one of my most watched shows and it only lasted one season(we were robbed!) The premise was pollution had cause our Earth to be abandoned, forcing humans to live on space stations. Scientist Devon Adair and crew journey to a new planet to colonise but end up crash landing on the planet. They journey on searching for New Pacifica which was their original destination on planet.
What I liked about the show, well besides the fact I’m a long time science fiction fan
There is a great bunch of diverse characters, my favourite are Alonzo, Morgan Martin, Bess Martin, True Danziger and Gaal (the fabulous Tim Curry) the planet and it’s indigenous creatures...Grendlers! So much fun. It has so much potential...
I’d love a fic featuring any of my favourite characters but feel free to include others too.

Pilot Alonzo Solace was a lot older than he looked, due to all the cold sleep journeys he’d made as a pilot. He’d never intended to set a foot off the ship, so I’d love if you’d like to explore Alonzo coping with his unexpected circumstances.

Any missing scene or just go with something from my likes list. My favourite thing about the show is the relationship between Malcolm and Gil. I also enjoy the interaction between Malcolm and JT. Or more Nurse Ilsa from Internal Affairs, which happens to be my favourite episode.
Younger Malcolm and his relationship with Gil/Jackie canon divergence might work well here too

Aww and in the season finale there were several cute moments in between the serious stuff, Mom telling Malcolm he was grounded, telling Gil that Malcolm was in his room sulking and when Malcolm and Ainsley were sitting on the couch together feigning innocence. Anything sparked by these little scenes would be so so welcome.
