Nominations are open!

Chocolate Box lives and is now accepting nominations! You are able to nominate up to seven fandoms and seven relationships in those fandoms.

You can find the tag set here!

This year, we are changing how nominations are to be formatted! This is to hopefully reduce duplicate nominations, reduce tag migration, and make the nomination process smoother for everyone. It is as follows:
  • Characters in any given relationship are to be ordered in alphabetical order with reference to the first part of each character's name being used, as you read left to right. That is, if the family name goes first, then by family name. If the given name comes first, by given name.
  • All nominations must contain at the end, inside parentheses (), the name of the canon (or a truncated version as necessary).
A nomination that does not meet this criteria will not be approved.

In terms of nominations generally:
  • just about any fandom is eligible;
  • You must nominate relationship(s) inside a fandom;
  • The characters must appear in the fandom nominated;
  • Please remember that "Character A/Character B" is shipfic, "Character A & Character B" is genfic, and "Character A/Character B & Character C" is shipfic that also has a gen component involving Character C;
  • There is no limit on the number of characters that can be in a combination other than the AO3 character limit;
  • Objects can be nominated in tags;
  • Crossovers must be nominated in "Crossover Fandom", which is already nominated.
  • Original Works are okay and we have nominated that fandom for you already;
You will be required to offer two tags per fandom on signups (unless only one relationship tag is nominated), so please keep that in mind when nominating.

For specific fandoms:
  • Dragon Age - please nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)"
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom.
  • Marvel Netflix series - please nominated as "Defenders (TV)".
  • Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
  • Arrowverse - please nominate into "DC's Arrowverse" and not individual titles.
  • Angel and Buffyverse - please nominate into "Buffyverse (TV)"
  • Stargate - please nominate as "Stargate - All Media Types"
  • Marvel and DC Comics - please nominate main continuity into Marvel (Comics) and DCU (Comics), and you can put specific runs into the parentheses instead of the fandom for these nominations only. Titles that are explicit alternate realities such as Age of Apocalypse, Marvel 1602 etc. can be nominated as specific titles.
  • Pokemon - please nominate the main games under "Pocket Monsters | Pokemon (Main Video Game Series)", the anime under "Pocket Monsters | Pokemon (Anime)", and everything else under specific titles.

Please watch this comm for updates about clarifications, merging of fandoms, and general administrative enquiries! If you have any questions, drop them here!

Tagset approval may be slow until 25 December due to real life work commitments.

Finally, all anonymous comments are screened unless they include your AO3 name. Thank you!

Can there be more clarification on: All nominations must contain at the end, inside parentheses (), the name of the canon (or a truncated version as necessary).

Sorry forgot to include name:

Can you please give an example set of the new rules with a fandom? I don't understand.

looks like two of my noms ended up on the oopsie doubling end thanks to Ao3:

Lucifer (Supernatural)/Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) ended up in Supernatural section instead of sticking to the crossover fandom.

Lucifer (Supernatural)/Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) ended up in the Lucifer TV section instead of sticking to the crossover fandom.

PS: Sorry if it's too early to report tag wondering. I thought to point it out asap. They're in the right spots just they ended up duplicated themselves elsewhere.

Looks like there's something odd going on with my noms. One of my Hetalia pairs was accepted twice. And now the nomination form won't let me edit/add anything else because one of the pairings is duplicated. Since it was accepted, I can't remove the duplicate.

Fandom is Hetalia, pairing is Netherlands/Romania. Here is the direct to my noms page if that'll help.

If AO3's canonical tag for a character or ship is piped, do you prefer that we use the piping in our nominations or omit it?

Is there a particular way you'd like for us to treat nominations for characters who can be male or female? For example, for Fire Emblem Three Houses, would 'Male Byleth' by alphabetized by Male or by Byleth?

Hi! I want to nom a couple ships from Archie Comics, but I think there are several different titles synned under that umbrella. I just want the old 1942 comics (ie I'm specifically trying to avoid my noms being merged with Riverdale TV somehow xD). Do you have a preference if I nominate as "Archie Comics", as "Archie Comics - 1942", or something else?

I would like to nominate "Original Hutt Character/Original Twi'lek Character" for Star Wars. Is that something that is okay to nominate and if so, is it okay to nominate it under Star Wars All Media Types if I don't care which era the story is set in?

Just to clarify - so if I nominate a pairing that drops down and is selectable in the "relationship" box, I need to disregard it and type my own version that ends in "([canon])"?

Question about piped tags: I want to nominate Fukawa Touko/Genocider Syo | Genocide Jack/Togami Byakuya; is the tag fine as is or should the piped names be switched, since Genocide Jack would come before Genocider Syo alphabetically?

And just to double check, is Dangan Ronpa being split between Hope's Peak Arc and NDRV3 again?

Hi! I can't remember from last year, how do you like us to separate Dangan Ronpa. Was it by 'Hope's Peak arc' and 'V3', or all media types? I still prefer all media types if that's an option.

So, even if we're nominating an existing relationship tag within an existing fandom tag, we should still put the fandom at the end?

For instance for MCU, would I nominate Marvel Cinematic Universe as fandom, then type in the relationship tag and still add the (fandom name) again at the end - even if the relationship already pops up as a tag choice?

Just want to make sure I"m doing it right. :) Under the fandom Marvel Cinematic Universe, for a relationship I would still type out "Steve Rogers/Tony Stark (Marvel Cinematic Universe)"?

Thank you so much for running this exchange again this year! I spotted a duplicate fandom in the tag set—under Video Games, "Dishonored" and "Dishonored (Video Games)" are the same series.

There's one duplicate relationship (Corvo Attano/Daud/The Outsider (Dishonored)) between the two approved fandoms, but they should probably be merged together.

Hi! I wanted to give a heads up re: Greedfall and Assassin's Creed. AO3 will attempt to syn male/female versions of the protagonist to a non-gender specific one, but please keep them as is because it's just a little bit important to be able to request the specific version that somebody prefers. Constantin/male De Sardet =/= Constantin/female De Sardet.

Thank you!

Hi, one of the fandoms I'm planning on nominating (Fafner) has two different characters with the same name - one of them has "Minashiro Soushi (II)" as his canonical tag, but would you prefer I drop the brackets or otherwise format it differently so that it's not confusing with the fandom disambiguation?
thecatmod: (Lipstick)

[personal profile] thecatmod 2020-12-21 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Either is fine. With how the AO3 tagset approval interface appears, it should be identifiable (when it loads!).

So just to confirm--the alphabetical thing applies to original works as well, right?
(I ask because some of my recurring noms are gonna be pretty awkward if they get flipped--pronoun before referent, that sort of thing--and it would be difficult to rephrase them in a way that kept them alphabetical and resolved those issues, but I'm sure people are smart enough to figure it out either way.)

Also, if I were to nom, say, "the grinch," ao3 would put that under T not G, right?
thecatmod: (Pink Hearts)

[personal profile] thecatmod 2020-12-21 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
It more about the characters (or character archetypes) being sorted alphabetically - this enables the mod team to find duplicates quicker. You wouldn't have to have "Male" or "Female" at the start of the tag (unless that was already the case!).

In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, you can select from one of two protagonists, Alexios and Kassandra, and whoever you don't choose becomes a character known as Deimos. Would I be able to specify Demios!Alexios & Kassandra instead of just Alexios & Kassandra?

Okay, questions regarding Star Wars fandom selection:

- Regarding Legends content, would you like Star Wars Legends - All Media Types used, or specific titles?
- Should a ship between characters from two different Star Wars fandom tags should be nominated as a Crossover?
- Will ships that can exist in more than one (Star Wars) fandom tag be considered dupes or separate ships?

Sorry to ask so many questions! Thank you!

How do you want us to nominate "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" and "Agent Carter"? I mean, should we nominate them under "The Defenders" or separate?

AO3 username: [archiveofourown.org profile] EleosEpistrophia (I hope I did that right!)

Just wanted to let you know that under the Star Trek: Alternate Original Series tag the same pairing has been nominated twice:

Leonard "Bones" McCoy/Nyota Uhura (ST:AOS)
Leonard "Bones" McCoy/Nyota Uhura (ST AOS)

I'm not sure if this actually needs to be brought to your attention or if it's something you clean up later, but here it is!

Also, ST:AOS appears under both movies and TV shows even though it's just a series of movies, but I'm pretty sure it's just an AO3 thing you don't have control over.

I originally submitted from my phone with prompters and there were no () options at the end of some, which was why only 2 of them had them, sorry about that D: I resubmitted now, hopefully it worked this time?

Also just to clarify - the sailor moon characters are listed by surname first as their surnames go first canonically!

Bayonetta (Bayonetta)/Dante (Devil May Cry) appears under the "Devil May Cry" video game section. It's in the crossover - fandom but it decided to not play nice and duplicate itself in DMC.

Very silly question: I’m interested in a polyamorous ship which is v-shaped rather than a triad (so character A is dating both B and C, who are not dating each other). Could I nominate "A/B & A/C (Fandom)," or does it need to be nominated "A/B/C (Fandom)"?
